Hyderabad House- Now in Near North

I was at the Devon location of Hyderabad House yesterday and I saw a poster for their new location in River North at 236 W Division. This is a cabbie joint behind Sammy's that used to be a Somali restaurant.

Talked to the Proprietor and he said the menu in the River North location is similar to the Devon location but with fewer items on a daily basis. And the River North location accepts Credit Cards unlike the Cash Only Option in the Devon Location.

I for one am really, really happy.

Just a note for clarification, this location would be considered Old Town or Near North Side, but definitely not River North.

Though I have yet to visit, I'm also very happy about this new location. The original Hyderabad House is one of my favorite South Asian restaurants in Chicago. Here's a shot from last July, a month or two before it opened (the Hyderabad House sign on the door gives its location as “Chicago Downtown”).



No doubt it will be especially popular among drivers for Dispatch, whose taxis almost match the building's color.

Oops, sorry aboutt he original header! I should know better, having lived here for 17 years!

The last time I was there; they were setting up to offer Buffet; to be offered M-F 11-3 for 11.99. This will include vegetarian options that will be more than what is offered on the regular menu. As I am a Vegetarian, I did not enquire about the Meat options for the buffet; but I am guessing it will be similar to the items offered on the regular menu.

I do not think the Devon Ave Cabbie joint offers a Buffet. Maybe the sit down sister restaurant next door offers a Buffet; but I have never eaten there, so I would not know.

I am really glad to not have to schlep to Devon for this food of the City I grew up in.

This is now closed, it looks like. The place, along with Sammy's Red Hots on the street, were locked up the last time I was there.

The buildings were sold semi recently to a developer who is planning on knocking both down to build micro apartments. Current zoning allows for 70 feet. In other words, most likely both of these businesses are gone unless they find new homes...

Don't know if it's the same, but there is a Hyderabad House that opened up in Buffalo Grove within the past several weeks.

It's in the location on Old McHenry Rd. where India House was for several years (followed by the short-lived Mango Leaf).
