Going to be in grant park this weekend for Lollapalooza. They have a great reentry policy and I was looking to check out some good restaurants. Any recomendations around the area?

Fast foward 2 years, and now I am going to be at Lolla this weekend. We'll have a little time in between bands that we want to see to grab a bite to eat. Would like something on the quicker side and no more than $10-15 pp. Any ideas? Thanks

While there are several eating establishments close to the Lolla fairgrounds, not many of them are terribly affordable. A few suggestions though would be Howies on Wabash (not exactly fantastic, but quick and pretty cheap), Thai Spoon on Wabash (again, not all that fantastic, but quick and cheap, with good bubble drinks), and Grace O'Malley's on South Michigan (good basic bar food that can be ordered either at a table or while sitting at the bar.)

If you will be eating before 2pm, I would recommend Bongo Room on Wabash, Orange on Harrison, or Yolk on South Michigan. All of these offer good breakfast and lunch options. The last suggestion would be Eleven City Diner on Wabash. It's not all that cheap, and the food and service can be pretty inconsistent, but some safe bets are the patty melt and the corned beef sandwich.

Enjoy the shows, and please report back on where you decide to go!

    Panozzo's, described in this thread:
    http://lthforum.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=14647

and another recent one, has sandwiches to go, is at 13th and Michigan and (according to their website) is open 10-5 on Saturday, 10-4 on Sunday.

I can also second Amata's suggestion to try Panozzo's if you're looking for more of a grab-and-go option in the neighborhood. They don't offer seating of any kind for consumption of your food purchases, but all of their stuff holds up quite well while in transit.

What about the Pizano's Pizza at 61 E Madison?
When I grow up, I'm going to Bovine University!

i was actually going to suggest Pizzano's, too. i had avoided the place until recently (read some mixed reviews)... i've gone twice lately... i love their deep dish. the people at the bar have been super friendly... i went once for lunch, sat at the bar, ended up staying for 2 hours just chit chatting w/ people at the bar. i'm totally not that type of person usually either.

... another you might consider is the recently opened "The Gage" (there's a thread somewhere if you search).. i was a little less than impressed with what i ordered but i i would give it another whirl ...

    i would avoid the park grill/cafe ..

Tavern At the Park just opened this week. haven't heard if it's a yay or nay, but it's a keefers restaurant so i'm sure it's ok at the very least. but if you're going to lollapalooza you might be underdressed for it anyway.

then there's the random bennigan's or two, artists' cafe.. a lot of other places in the area are closed on weekends.

has anyone been to the cafe in the art institute courtyard? i never even knew they had a restaurant until recently. any good? it's a beautiful looking plaza

(is heaven on seven over on wabash open on the weekend? i assume so.

They just opened up a Qdoba on Randolph right between Michigan & Wabash. Yes, yes, it's a chain, but what can I say? I'm a fan. They serve burritos as big as your head for under $6 and there's lots of cilantro in the rice and the guacamole, so if you're a cilantro fanatic like me, it's heaven.

I'll be at Lollapalooza this weekend, too, and will give Qdoba a try.

My current go-to place for quick food near Grant Park/Millenium Park is Osaka Express. They make decent sushi and pretty good fruit smoothies (which I will appreciate, given the weather lately). Please note that they close early (8 PM?) and I believe they are closed Sundays.

Keep in mind the OP mentioned that he looking for food options close to Lollapalooza this weekend, which is located at the baseball fields immediately north of Roosevelt Road between LSD and Columbus Drive. The vicinity of Randolph and Michigan is a pretty long hoof from that location (over a mile, in fact.)

actually there are two major stages. one is located at Monroe and Columbus--two blocks or so from the corner of randolph/michigan, the other the opposite end of the park... then there are also a few smaller stages in betweeen...

I went to the Gage last night after Lollapalooza. It's a few blocks north of Grant Park on Michigan Ave. It was the perfect post-concert meal--delicious, and fun, but also quiet and intimate enough that you got some relief after the lolla crowds. We had the fish and chips, which were wonderful and perfectly crispy and the Gage burger (camembert + carmelized onions!)

Thank you for the recommendation! We went there for dinner tonight just before it started to really pour! We didn't have to wait for a table at 8pm. My boyfriend and I really enjoyed their deep dish pizza. I found it to be thinner and crisper than some of the other local counterparts. However, the cheese was a little on the salty side. I wish I had room for dessert b/c those cookies for two sounded really good! I saw a couple at a nearby table devouring theirs with enjoyment.
