For some reason I was hungry last night around 10:15 and had no idea where to go. I decided to try Silver Seafood on Broadway as I recalled hearing it was good quality if it had slipped a bit recently.

I got there and was one of three occupied tables in an extremely bright room. They brought me two menus which seemed like a good thing at first but I couldn't decide what to get. I settled on ginger shrimp as it seemed a simple enough preparationthat was most likely to be good. (sorry, I wasn't in the mood for adventurous eatnig last night)

At just under a buck a shrimp when it finally arrived, I was pretty disappointed. The shrimp were fine, the hideous sweet and cloying sauce was not. It was advertised as hot but my children would have eaten this if you pulled off the couple slivers of raw and unappealing jalapeno slices they tossed on. Pure Americanized buffet quality cornstarch and sugar covering dedcent seafood, what a shame. When the patron is wiping the sauce off the shrimp with the broccoli, maybe you should see if there's something wrong!

I would have said something but the service was among the worst Ive had, even for storefront ethnic. No one ever came to ask me what I wanted or how the meal was or if I wanted more rice (the pathetic little bowl was the first thing I finished), Water and tea were served by the busboy several minutes after my food arrived which in itself was quite a wait. The check was dropped on my table with a half hearted mumble and the server pointedly did not ask me how my meal was. I was in a kind of a mood before the meal and this did not help so perhaps its my fault that I did not speak up but you know what? You shouldn't have to. If anyone had even looked at my table before they expected to get paid they would have seen I was not pleased. Passive agressive? Sure, but I didn't care.

I will not be going back, there are far better late night options, many of which are closer to me...Ghareeb Nawaz positively mocked me as I drove past on the way home. I could almost hear the proprietor "You spent how much for a crappy dinner? You know how many people you could have fed here for that?" Heck, I'd have rather had El Famous tacos and salsa for 5 bucks.

    Live and learn.

I used to think the brain was the most important part of the body. Then I realized who was telling me that.
