BF and I had dinner at Deluxe Diner on Wednesday night, as I remembered reading this place was open late on the north side and is part of the "Great Neighborhood Restaurant" program. So off we went...

Both of us had a bowl of chicken noodle soup.
I had a patty melt with fries.
He, a denver omelet, hash browns and a side of biscuits n' gravy.

After our filling meal, we agreed it was nothing special. Just a regular old diner and larger portions than I expected. (And a huge menu!) We weren't impressed with the place so much and service was average.

Hope folks had and/or will have a much better experience than we did at this place. We will not be returning to this establishment again.

It's not part of the program, it's been nominated by a poster as their first post to LTHforum.

and, if you read closely, my "seconding" is for Touche', the bar across the street, not Deluxe Diner.

Sorry to hear you didn't like it. It's long been a favorite of mine, I go for the breakfast stuff usually. They have changed things over the years though and I will say it's not as good as it used to be, but I do still like it much.

So how many posts, then, does a new user have to make, to be considered credible, eh?

I must agree, Deluxe Diner isn't that great (sadly, due to the fact that it is just down the street from me). There is the A&T Diner about a mile north on Clark, but sadly it isn't open late night. By the way, has anyone posted anything about Grande? This place is adorable and has some really good food.

I concur that Deluxe is nothing special. However, I still think it is a GNR. It does what it does well and its open late. I would call it a clutch place. Sadly it does not have the funky vibe of a Diner Grill, even better, the variety of smells that the Two Way Grill has. I put it in the same ranks as the White Palace...if I'm near there and it feels like feeding time, well its a good choice.

After reading my own lukewarm review, about all I can say is it has never sucked and I have never had a dish there that sucked. I'm afraid I can't even say that about some places I would recommend.

Sometimes it would be nice to allow a peek behind the curtain...

Much discussion over the name of the program, so let's just say Deluxe is great for what it is, but not a destination.
