Breakfast near Randhurst?

As far as I can tell from the LTHForum Map and from reading, there are maybe about six people here who frequent the Mount Prospect/south Arlington Heights area, but perhaps somebody has inside info.

As you might guess, I am not a morning person, but occasionally I do seek out breakfast. My recent dismal experience at Egg Factory made me aware of just how poorly served this area is in the way of diners. This is something I've often lamented when it comes to late-night eats, but as far as I can tell there aren't any places for diner breakfast, either. There used to be Forsey's up on Rand Road near Palatine -- it's gone. There's the Buffalo Restaurant in Buffalo Grove, but that's farther than I really want to go for breakfast, and Walker Brothers is fine when you want a big, fancy meal, but I'm looking for the kind of place you can get a good cheap breakfast of eggs, bacon or ham and toast.

Am I missing somewhere?

It's been at least 6-8 years now, but wasn't there a diner in downtown Mount Prospect near Jake's Pizza or the Continental Bakery? The name completely escapes me right now. I remember going there a couple of times in high school. Did it close in light of all the downtown renovations?

There is a diner or greasy-spoon type of affair on Northwest Highway which I sometimes walk by but I haven't been in and I don't know if they have breakfast. They could even have since the last time I was there.

They took out the Corner Bakery on Northwest Highway and 83 or wherever that was and put in another chain called Le Peep. I've seen the menu and they do serve breakfast but I have not been in because, frankly, the name sounds obscene.

Dick's River Roadhouse on River Road serves breakfast but it is a smoky bar-type place that serves things like fried Twinkies. The bar food is fine but I think it's a little hardcore for first thing in the morning. Plus, it looks like a TGI Friday's inside, only more vulgar.

well i dont know wut ur talkin about cuz egg factory is very good.

but i have a suggestion for you in mt. prospect...try Elly's Pancake House on Milwaukee and Euclid...HIIIIGHLY recomended

I'll second that but I believe there is another pancake house on Euclid just east of Ranhurst, Monica's might be the name. Haven't been there but it looks interesting.

I live w/in walking distance of Randhurst.
I like Egg Harbor in downtown A.H., but it's definitely not diner-style.
If I'm hung over, I like Mr. A's diner with the thick slices of ham off the bone, on Central, 1/2 mile west of NW hwy. Otherwise, the food doesn't taste that great.

Can't think of any others. Damn.

On Sundays, we like David's Bistro, S.E. corner of Wolf Road and Central.
In the shopping strip, but don't let that scare you away.

I completely purged Egg Factory from my mind having first spied it across an intersection while visiting friends a couple weeks back. Could a breakfast place have a more unappetizing name? It's right up there with an (I'm assuming) Italian-ish joint we spied in a stripmall that same evening: Pastabilities!

Mr. Allison's in Arlington Heights does a pretty good breakfast. Nothing too fancy, just good food at a nice price in sort of a classic diner atmosphere.

Someone suggested to me that I check out a place called L&L Breakfast, on Northwest Highway near the Cumberland train stop. I have not been able to find it, so if anyone is familiar with the place, could you post some info?

That David guy from David's Bistro is in love with himself.A few years ago i was in his parking lot and spotted his brand new stupid Hummer.I stopped my NEW jeep close by to just have a look out my window.He came running out like i was gonna touch it or something!His cooking show on public access is pretty pathetic too.David Maish loves David Maish.Never after the Hummer incident would i give him my $$$. You can check out the Uptown Cafe (formerly Granny's) in downtown Arl Hts for a good Greek breakfast.They have an expanded menu now with some different stuff and their link sausage is the plumpest,juciest i've had.

Artemis "the place to be" is on the corner of Busse and Golf. GREAT homemade corned beef hash.

Also L & L Snack Shop on E Northwest Hwy, serves a good hearty breakfast. They love their ham off the bone that you get almost a sides worth free even though you didn't order it.

Egg Harbor was thoroughly OK. 'Nuff said.

Monica's on Euclid just east of Randhurst is pretty good, basic pancake house food. The place on NW Hwy just NW of Elmhurst is about equivalent -- but it's been awhile since I was there, so YMMV.

I've been in a couple Le Peeps, but not the one that replaced Corner Bakery. Not bad, a little high priced for a basic breakfast, but they're big on 'skillet plates' with lots of spuds and eggs and things.

Steak 'n' Shake serves breakfast... but I haven't tried that yet. My kids keep encouraging it, but it hasn't happened.

Does Baker's Square serve breakfast?

Frankly, I just don't go out for breakfast much -- brunch is more likely to happen after an event at MrsF's church in Lincoln Park (more options too -- and in cae you're trying to figure out the phrasing of the previous sentence, I'm Jewish-raised, but beyond beliefs).

Thanks. Monica's sounds like it might be what I was looking for. I had vaguely remembered its existence, but the location didn't surface when I needed it.

I will check these tips out the next time I am looking for breakfast early.

Monica's does have an awkward look to it. Tucked way back with a big wall in front of it. Looks like it could be a office building. A remodel could do it some good.

yea i've had monica's cafe before too its a good breakfast place too

Finally had a chance to go to L&L Snack Shop. It's now my go-to breakfast joint on the weekends. Food was good, particularly the ham. If you order a "side" of ham, be prepared to eat because you get several large slices!! I had their sausage and cheese omlette and was pleased with the large chunks of sliced sausage. The owners are some of the nicest people I've had the pleasure of meeting so the overall experience was very enjoyable.

Similar to the above post, they gave me an order of toast for free.

A late chime in for Laz -
I recently used to work in Mt P, and thought the egg factory was over priced and too corporate. I'm not a Ham fan, but I know quite a few ppl that scream about the breakfast at Mr Allison's. (The ham specifically)It's a slab you will never finish in one sitting. They also sell their hams and do a good business with it. It's a cheep diner style joint.

HOWEVER, my friend, MY favorite spot for breakfast is Gail's Carriage House on elmhurst and NW highway. Tad pricier than your standard diner breakfast, but the blueberry pancakes are stellar! As I recall, an order of the blueberry pancakes ran about 6.00, but they were WELL worth it. Easily enough for two ppl, and no, it wasn't the bluberry compote crap - real blueberries in the pancakes, and a whole bunch of them sprinkled on top.
