Red Dog. It was the club abover Borderline and Cafe Absinthe. An old school Wicker Park place. Closed down maybe a year or two ago. The rumor I heard was the city shut it down because of a brawl that occurred in the club. Just wondering about the truth of this rumor. It was a great space that seems to currently not be in use. Hate to see it go to waste.

if brawls were the criterion the city used to close places down, there wouldn't be many bars left - and Red Dog would have been closed a lot longer ago than a year. I seem to remember some pretty grisly incidents there over the years. That said, it was a good place that had some good nights, and will be missed.

That place just had too many repeated violations. Shady promoters, fights, capacity issues, underage people in the club, and even a shooting out front involving two patrons. (Some guy's wooing was rejected by a woman, so he tried to shoot her as she left. He hit an innocent bystander (or was it two?) instead.)

I'd heard a rumor that they'd be allowed to reopen under a name change (supposedly "Borderline 2"), but that never materialized.

Boom Boom Room at Red Dog was the longest running house night in the city, as well as easily one of the most diverse. The venue really wasn't anything special though. After Red Dog's closing they temporarily tried to do a BBR-esque night at Zentra called Legendary, but Lego parted ways shortly after it began. ("House Arrest" with Carter, Diz & Hiroki still goes on there.)

Music 101's resurrected Boom Boom Room and begun throwing it on Monday nights at Green Dolphin Street with Lego and guests. I've heard great things about the new night, even though I've been too much of a wimp to make it out since it started up again. If you're looking for much of the same crowd in an even nicer venue, GDS will probably give you what you're looking for on a Monday night.
