Best Indian downtown?

Taking my dad to Chicago for two nights in June. Taking him to either Moto or Avenues one night(anyone have an opinion as to which one I should choose?)...we both love Indian food and I'd like to take him to a really good Indian place downtown. We're staying at the Cass Hotel, but anyplace downtown is OK if it's really good.

Although I haven't eaten there, people seem to agree that India House is a great place. But if you both really enjoy Indian food, I'd suggest you take a trip up to Devon Ave., which is where the highest concentration of Indian restaurants in Chicago are located. You'll probably pay about $15 for a cab (each way), but I suspect you'll pay less for your meal, regardless of where you decide to eat. I've previously lived in the Middle East, and when I get to Devon Ave., I feel as if I've been transported to Asia...different smells, different sounds, different languages. If you took a picture looking down the street that showed the store's signs, I suspect a lot of frequent travelers would guess there were in another country. So in addition to eating dinner, you could wander into a few grocery stores, there are jewerly shops that sell 18K to 24K gold, you'll see places selling nothing but saris. It's a lot of fun.

Urr, sorry to hijack topic, but have you stayed at Cass Hotel before? Several friends didn't give it glowing recommendations. It does have a good location though.

No, never stayed there, but reviews on epinions.com were pretty good, said it was tiny but comfortable beds in great location, and the price is very good. I'm looking to save on the room to spend it on food, and I know my dad won't care. I've stayed in downtown SF before, so tiny rooms won't faze me, I just don't want to spend a fortune and don't want to get shot on the way to my room(we'll be taking cabs or the L mostly anyway) However...if you know of someplace I should be considering that's around $100/night, I'm all ears.

In the interests of being helpful but at the risk of further digressing, I'll ask elrushbo: Have you tried priceline? I know people who have bid $75 on four-star downtown/mag mile rooms and have had hotels accept their bids. Obviously, those instances might be aberrations, but I've heard about enough people who have obtained $125/less rooms with priceline, even in expensive cities like London, to know that it's at least fairly common. At $100, it seems that you should have a good shot.

As for Indian downtown, it's really not where it's at. The Devon area is worth exploring. If you must stay downtown, however, I have heard good things about India House. (Do a search and you might come upon more detailed reviews.)
