My husband and I are headed up north (Grayslake) tomorrow to see some friends. Any suggestions for good places to grab dinner in the Grayslake/Mundelein/Libertyville area?

Trattoria Pomigliano in Libertyville has always been a family favorite. It's Italian homestyle in downtown Libertyville. The food is southern Italian cuisine made from "grandma's" traditional recipes. Offering limited choices of pasta, veal, and chicken, the pasta is the premier dish. They serve the finest eggplant parm in Lake County. The veal limone is my favorite. Don't leave without a slice of grandma's tiramisu. Trattoria Pomigliano offers good hearty food at very reasonable prices.

My personal favorite in that neck of the woods is Firkin in Libertyville on Milwaukee Ave. My inclination is to describe it as an upscale tavern, but their food is really more than pub food. I love their fish tacos and the husband is a huge fan of their Cubano, and he is very picky when it comes to those. The service and crowd there are always friendly, and you're never rushed no matter how crowded it is.

Here's a link so you can check out the menu...
