I was SO SAD to hear that To Pho, the Vietnamese restaurant in the Loop is gone.
I read that it was closing at the end of this week, so I went yesterday to have one last bowl of Pho and an egg roll, but found the place dark and the chairs on the table.
    Anyone know why it closed?

I'm so tired of chain restaurants in the Loop. It's always sad to see a decent independent close it's doors.

I agree that To Pho was one of the best options for a quick lunch downtown. The place seemed to suffer from a real identity crisis, though. I once went in around 5 pm hoping to get a snack and was given a really pricey menu. The fast-lunch ambience hadn't changed, but they wanted to be an upscale restaurant. The whole thing was kind of strange, really.

I'm sorry to hear that they've closed. They had really tasty marinated, grilled meats and a fish sauce-based dipping sauce that held its own.

I want add my condolences about the loss of To Pho. It was an exceptionally nice alternation to the Au Corner Cosi Bacci Pan Bakery. At least only a few feet to the north still lies some of the tastiest chicken shwarma in the city at Oasis (21 N. Wabash, back of the Jewelers Mall).

Except, it's currently closed for renovations (not sure if of the restaurant or the surrounding space).

While the food at To Pho was excellent, the service was less than desirable. No matter what was tried, the staff and customers were always confused on where to go, who to order from, what things cost, etc. With better management and organization I think this place would have been extremely successful.
