I've been to Katsu twice before and both times I just ordered off the menu and asked the waitress what she would recommend. I loved just about everything, from the grilled tripe to the marlin jaw to the scallop nigiri. I had a tough time deciding afterwards which I was most impressed with, the raw or the cooked items.
So now my brother's birthday is coming up, and a meal at Katsu is definitely in the works, but I'm not sure if I want to try for the Omakase or stick with what I know. I've heard that the omakase must be reserved in advance, I was just wondering if someone who has experienced before might shed some light on what to expect. Is it typically composed of mostly raw items from the sushi bar, or special preparations from the kitchen, or a mix? Are there any items that only come in the Omakase that are never on the regular menu that I just have to try? Any thoughts greatly appreciated.
