i have a not-so-secret love for club sandwiches. for my lowbrow side, its the perfect food -- toast, produce, cold cuts, and mmmmmm bacon. and, tho i like mild twists on the theme (avocado, canadian bacon, ...), i'm generally a purist. with some (but not much) shame, i'll even admit that i prefer processed turkey on my club as the "real" stuff is all too often dry and stringy.

what restaurant serves your favorite club? the last really good one i had was at angel's in andersonville.

Though not a purist version, the roast chicken club at Cityfood is lovely -- fresh, plentiful ingredients ("Our Seasoned Baked Chicken Breast On Toasted Whole Wheat Bread with Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato, Mayo, Swiss and Pepper Jack Cheese") in a good-sized sandwich. Their soups are nice too.

NOW, your singing my song, foo d! I am proud to consider myself a turkey club officienado, and I say that with tremendous confidence being that clubs are my "goto" order when I'm not craving anything specific.

I would agree that processed turkey makes for a tastier sandwich, as does a second factor, the crispiness of the bacon: meaning, "wetter" than I would eat it if it were featured next to my once-over-easy eggs.

This being said, HANDS DOWN, the finest smoked turkey club can be ordered at the Bagel, on Broadway, on toasted wheat, with extra mayo.

I'm drooling just thinking about it.
