...than to order fish tacos at the Twisted Lizard (Armitage & Sheffield,) last night. Especially after recent really good seafood meals at Los Nopales and Fonda del Mar. Plus, the girlies going around the place with free sample shots of "flavored" tequila in blinking-light plastic glasses on Cuervo surfboards probably should have tipped me off as well. Anyway, (surprise,) they were not good. I'm 99% sure that the fish was previously frozen beer battered cod which they doused with chipotle cream and soggy coleslaw. 3 tacos = $14.00 ($3.00 extra if you want a bland side of rice and black beans.) So if you ever find yourself in the Twisted Lizard wondering if they could possibly have decent fish tacos - the answer is "no."
In the interest of not being totally negative, I will say the room is kind of cozy, husband said his enchiladas were "fine," and the service was pleasant/efficient.

I ate at the Twisted Lizard once or twice when I lived in the neighborhood, and I never was impressed. I don't recall having had an awful meal there, but it's definitely more of a trixie/fratboy place for drinking mediocre margaritas (with food as an afterthought).

I read over the 3=$14.00 figure twice because I thought my eyes were failing me.

2 entrees, 2 Dos Equis, and 2 house margaritas and the total bill was $51.00 w/o tip. Lesson learned.

Just to be clear - we are talking the equivalent of three Mrs. Paul filets, with flavored mayo on a tortilla for $14? Oh right, and food service cole slaw, maybe that makes the difference.

Are you sure that did not include a cover charge for the floor show?

Yup, that's it. Of course the $51 tab also includes the $3.00 I paid for the side of black beans and rice. :)
Husband and I talked about this experience again on Sat. night after dining at the relatively new "Feed The Beast" on Lincoln. We shared what was essentially a lobster rangoon appetizer (6 pieces + dipping sauce,) we each had decent paninis (house-made chips that came with were good,) I had 2 glasses of Sauv. Blanc and he had two beers. Service was very good, timing of everything perfect, and we really dug the music/vibe (Fiona Apple, Drive-By Truckers....an eclectic mix.) Total tab before tip - $45. Either the Lizard is a huge rip-off or Feed The Beast is a great bargain - decide for yourself.

Fish in Chicago is almost a "No No". I know there are places that serve good fish, but.

    Thoroughly thirding the "huh".
Landlocked as we are, I've had some spectacular fish preparations while living here. And, this is coming from a girl who grew up in FL.

I'd like to see you back up your claim.
