Hi- I just wanted to quickly check in if the five course tasting is enough to sample Chef Cantu's brilliance and the Moto experience as a whole? I am trying to avoid having too much food which has been my experience with the 10 courses at Trotter's for example. Any guidance would be appreciated. I was trying to find a posting on LTH that could give me a sense of the differences between the different tasting coursesbut couldn't (or maybe I just gave up!).

    Thanks!

My best friend and I celebrated the 15 year anniversary of our friendship at Moto back in early May. We had the five course menu with wine pairings. For us, it was a perfect amount of food, though I'm sure I could have eaten more. I think I squealed (silently) with delight at each course. I thought it was a good introduction to the joys of Moto, though I'm sure the other multi-course menus provide a much richer experience. Maybe it might compare to taking a 3-day weekend vacation vs. a full week vacation? Enough time to relax and see some of the sites, eager to come back and see the rest. I would highly recommend the wine pairings. I remember literally sighing with every sip.

I just happened to be prowling through GAF's blog this week and he has a detailed account of the five-course tasting.

Of course, it was his second visit to Moto (and his first was the fabled LTH event), so it doesn't really answer your question. But you may still be interested.

We were told, when we dined at Moto, that the 5-course and 10-course meals actually presented about the same amount of food -- the courses were just slightly bigger in the 5-course dinner, and, of course, the cost is a little lower. Because of the pacing, 10 courses did not seem overwhelming. However, there were several courses where I would have liked a larger serving, rather than more courses.

I think you're safe any way you go -- and I certainly think 5 courses would be enough to get a feel for Moto's playful magic.
