Memphis recommendations needed

I saw a lot of other threads on BBQ in Memphis, but I am looking for recommendations for meateaters and (dare I say) non-meat-eaters alike. Something slightly classy, but in the $25 range per person. Asking too much?

It's been awhile since I lived in Memphis (left in '01) but Karen Carrier has a couple of restaurants that we enjoyed.

Automatic Slim's and The Beauty Shop

Slim's is downtown across from the Peabody and The Beauty Shop is in the Cooper-Young district. Both funky and interestingly prepared food that's not for everybody.

I love Rendezvous, but I wouldn't call it classy.


there's a few places that are more upscale in downtown... one or two are on the street the cable car thing runs down..can't think of the name right now though...
