Well, I finally made it to Arturo's in Greenwich Village. Arturo's is a classic New York pizza joint with thin-crust pizza, jazz music, and, inexplicably, a bathtub complete with shower head in the bathroom.

The pizza was excellent. Slightly burnt crust, foldable slices, and excellent sauce and cheese. And they did have a jazz duo playing some tunes at around 3:00 on Sunday afternoon, which was definitely pretty cool.

I'll be back in NYC next month, and again in May. I hope to try some more classic New York pizza joints during both trips. Suggestions would be welcome!

If you liked Arturo's, you're going to really love some other places that serve brick and coal oven pie in New York. I think that Arturo's is fine, but Lombardi's in Manhattan serves a far superior coal oven pie. Simplicity is the key to any pie there. Translated: order the margherita.

John's in Greenwich Village serves a good |Bridk oven Pie in Manhattan. I was once a bg fan of John's midtown location though my last visit there was somewhat disappointing.

I just ate at Lombardi's last Saturday. While waiting, the plain pizza looked exceptional, but we ended up doing half plain and half homemade meatball. After trying the meatballs, I wish it were all topped with meatballs. The pancetta at the table next to us looked great, too. Really a treat, particularly with the garlic.
