It's been a while since I spent much time in DC, but I would want to check out Myanmar in Falls Church, which Mike Sula recently
blogged about on the Reader food blog.
More than six years ago, I had one spot I really loved, Afghan Kabob, in Georgetown. Some friends took me on one trip and it was the only place I insisted upon returning to the next time I was in town. It wasn't quite as inspirational on the return trip, but I don't remember many details and it may just have been circumstantial.
I also recall being pretty impressed with Queen Bee, a Vietnamese restaurant in Arlington, but I went there before I'd spent much time on Argyle Street. If I recall correctly, it's slightly more polished than, say, Tank Noodle, but not a real fancy place.
In general, Adams-Morgan seemed like a rich spot for food. That's where the extremely dense cluster of Ethiopian restaurants is, but also a lot of other diverse and relatively affordable places. I went to Meskerem and felt that it was fine, but recall that the next time I went to Ethiopian Diamond here in Chicago, I felt that my local favorite was still better, at least for the dishes I order. Friends also took me for empanadas somewhere around there that were good, but alas, I have no idea where that was.
