We will be in Vienna next week. We love Salzburger Nockerln and would like to find a restaurant that serves it in Vienna. Any suggestions?

Zum Weissen Rauchfangkehrer does not have a menu online but has pictures of some of it's food and Salzburger Nockerln is pictures.

Also, Le Ciel in Grand Hotel Wien has it listed on it's tasting menu.

I haven't read anything about either of these restaurants. Any opinions of them?

    Thanks.

I haven't been to Zum Weissen Rauchfangkehrer or Le Ciel, but you're probably best off looking for Salzburger Nockerln in Gasthauser. I know the Hotel Sacher in Salzburg serves Salzburger Nockerln (obviously)... I stayed at the Hotel Sacher in Vienna a few years ago, but I don't remember if their cafe serves it. If this will be your first visit, I highly recommend Gerstner Cafe for pastries (no Salzburger Nockerln there).

I'm not sure if you're meat eaters but an Austrian specialty is Tafelspitz and there's an incredible version of it at Plachutta Restaurant. It was one of the best meals we enjoyed on our trip thru Eastern Europe last fall.

If you go to Hotel Sacher to eat, make sure to wear a jacket (men). Not sure if they require ties. Would suggest no jeans or sneakers, either. And try the Marillenknoedel (Apricot Dumplings) - so good! Skip the Sachertorte, dry and boring.

I disagree! The Sachertorte we had at the hotel was deliciously moist. It was a revelation.
