I am new to LTH!!!! Three of my girlfriends & I are going to New York on Monday. Can anyone give me a GREAT suggestion for dinner? Since we will only be in town one night (going to see Martha Stewart on Tuesday-won tickets in an auction), I want it to be somewhere that will be a winner.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thankx!

There are somewhere around 800 million restaurants in New York City. Care to narrow things down a bit?

Not knowing anything about your food preferences or your budget, I will blindly recommend Sushi Yasuda. Sit at the sushi bar and put yourself in Yasuda's hands.

A lot of really great places will require a reservation which might be diffcult to get though a Monday night may be your best bet. Give us an idea of where you're staying and we can go from there.

I think that a great girls night out place would be The Harrison in Tribeca or the Red Cat in Chelsea. Both are excellent food places and each is a bit of a scene too. They're also commonly owned.

Doesn't really matter on what type of cuisine-as far as price goes, nothing way over the top perhaps $50-75 per person.
We are staying on Lexington in Manhattan at the Fitzpatrick Hotel. I know this could be a needle in a haystack and we would need need to make reservations soon.

Here are a couple that I can recommend:

Asia de Cuba is a short cab ride from your hotel. If you can ignore the pretension, the food is really delicious and I think you could eat well and have a cocktail for $75 per person. The portions are HUGE. We dined there last summer, asking for one of the private side tables rather than the communal table, and enjoyed the experience. It's inside Morgans Hotel on Madison Avenue.

If you plan to be near the Theater District I can recommend Rene Pujol as a solid French option. Nothing fancy and not too pricey - Rene Pujol has been serving theater patrons for years. Our friend was sous chef until recently when he got a better offer. The price point is in your neighborhood - especially the $44 three-course prix fixe dinner.

    Hope these help!

Pammy, I hope this gets to you before Monday night. You're within striking distance of some great places.

The "new" Aquavit with it's Scandanavian inspired seafood; and the old grand dame of French Cooking in Manhattan "La Grenouille" come to mind. Both may be out of your price range at dinner. But, Le Grenouille has a terrific pre-fixe lunch special during the week.

At dinner, there is an outpost of Les Halles on Park Avenue in the 20s. If yo're willing to head in that direction checking in to see if a reservation is available at the always excellent Union Square, Grammercy Tavern or Craft is worth the effort.

For old school Italian served in formal wear by crusty waiters, Giambelli 50 is nearby on 50th Street not far from your hetel.

Nor are you very far from 21 with its menu of traditonal favorites as well as inventive new dishes.

I concur with the recommendation of Rene Pujol for a pre-theater dinner. It doesn't have star quality. But, the food is always well prepared and well priced there.
