My grandfather was a potato farmer on the very eastern part of Long Island, NY on the north fork. My sisters and I spent our summers there until we began college. My grandad died in 1987 and I haven't visited since. I am told that the once rural area is now filled with wineries and many more tourists, although not as tourist-ridden as the south fork (Hamptons, etc.).
My sisters and I have scheduled a return trip and are excited to relive our summers on the farm-now winery! This is a long shot, but I'm hoping that amongst this savvy group, somebody knows of great places to eat east of Riverhead. My favorite memory is a place call Fisherman's Rest. They served awe-inspiring soft-shelled crabs in season, and a decent New York style pizza. Alas, they are closed.
Any suggestions? My tastebuds thank you.
