    Howdy Padnahs.
No seriously - I did a quick search for any info on this place here - returned nothing. Wondering if anyone has been here lately, or ever. It was one of my two favorite spots in Texas, and easily in the top ten of my favorite "joint" restaurants. I have yet to read a less than sparkling review of this almost legendary soul food place.

    Ambience:

The line to get in was the longest line I had ever seen for food. Two and a half blocks on an 85 degree Texas Sunday, and the line was growing steadily. The place itself was obviously a renovated Burger King (and by renovated, I mean the BK sign was taken down,) and there was a gospel band performing in the corner of this tiny standing room only shack in the middle of a not so great looking neighborhood.

    The Food:

The only way I could ever describe the food would be: Sunday dinner at Grandma's house - if your grandma's table had each item that all of your Aunts / Uncles made perfectly. It's a cafeteria style place that has no shame in its use of butter, and the portions are downright hilariously huge. Slab of meatloaf took two days to eat. And I WANTED to finish it. Mac and cheese was perfect balance of milk, cheese, and butter so it didn't loose the cheesy characteristics (still stringy and gooey, and not just a pile of mush,) and had plenty of crunchy macaroni bits along with the crunchy toasted buttered bread pieces on top. Mashed taters were an absolute chunky delight swinning in real butter. When my tray was presented to me, I laughed out loud as I knew the Flinstonian size of these portions were going to be probably a less than stellar tasting meal, but to my absolute amazement, this stuff was a notch above "pretty good."

Is it the best food ever?
    no.

Is it the best soulfood for the price?
    Quite possibly.

Is it the best soulfood considering price to portion size?
For me, the answer was 150% YES!

When I got back from my Texas trip, I did some quick searches to see if I might have been overhyping the place, but I have yet to find a bad review from others on the random sites that I visited. Wondering if anyone here visited this place, and has an opinion?
