    Thanks
Some people eat to live, but I live to eat.

We spend a month each year in Palm Springs. Lots of places to eat up and down the valley...of course the big resort hotels all have fancy places, but outside of those, here are a few we like:

Le Vallauris, wonderful dining outdoors under a huge tree (try the sweetbreads if they're on the menu when you go).

Tyler's for hamburgers (lunch only, usually a line but worth the wait, especially if you order the homemade cole slaw)

Lord Fletcher's (kind of a Lawry's type old-English place with good prime rib and--my favorite--sand dabs)

Sherman's Deli (sit on the sidewalk and enjoy the corned beef)

Shanghai Reds (a bit tricky to find...it's behind the Fisherman's Market in Palm Springs...try the grilled lamb chops)

Europa is a pleasant spot in a nice little resort (if you don't go for dinner, then go after dinner and have a drink at the little bar outside or by the outdoor fireplace)

Of course there's Melvyn's, where all the stars used to go. Still a great place for Sunday brunch or late night dancing by the piano bar.

Before you go, be sure to get tickets to the Palm Springs Follies...see their web site for info. Not to be missed!

2 restaurants I highly recommend are Beefsteak (named after the tomato, not a steakhouse) in Rancho Mirage and Zin American Wine Bistro in Palm Springs. Both are contemporary cuisine.

Don't eat the BBQ. My friend from KC attended a conference there last year. Some others wanted him to try the local BBQ. As an afficianado of 'que, he found his experience to be downright tragic and comic.
