The owner of Little Ricky's Rib Joint in Winnetka is opening a BBQ joint in Racine. Not sure if it will be called the same. Patrick hopefully will be opening on Monday, June 26. Has anyone eaten at the restaurant in Winnetka? How was it?

If it's the ribs you're asking about, they are classic fall off the bone ribs; no smoking going on here. They're not bad for that style. My kids like them quite a bit. As a whole, it's not a bad take out place with some decent salads and sandwiches.

yeah, the food is ok, but it's not real BBQ

Now O'neils (his other restaurant in Winnetka) is another story. I love that place!

Little Ricky's opened on Thursday, June 29th. They're located on the upper level of the Racine Harbor Marina building. However, since there's a tavern a few blocks away in down town Racine called Ricky's Place, they opened under the name of "Rum Point." We're going there for dinner tonight.

We ate at Rum Point Monday evening. My wife and I split an order of the baby back ribs with two sides. The ribs were quite good(8 out of 10). The sauce was sweet and somewhat smokey(made with "liquid smoke.") We enjoyed the mashed sweet potatoes and the mac and cheese was average. Caution: the bar tender still needs some practice mixing rum drinks, using way too much rum. This may a be a problem for driving after dinner. Fortunately, we live 5 minutes away. We're two blocks north of the zoo, just east of Main Street. We noticed lots of customers enjoying the pulled pork sandwich with sweet potato fries, which we'll order next time. Will we return for the ribs? Absoultely! Oh Dennis now has some rib competition.

EU, did you ever make it to Rum Point? Yesterday, after kayaking from the Racine harbor to the Dragon Boat Races, we paddled back to Rum Point for lunch and split the pulled pork sandwich with a cup of gumbo. Both were very good. Dessert was Chocolate Shoppe ice cream at the snack bar under the restaurant, one of the few places serving key lime ice cream. We're now off to the Chicago Folk and Roots Festival for the day. I am in Racine, unfortunately wilbur's is poorly attended. I went one day to buy pork bbq to make the apples and baked beans with pork recipe off this website. I was the only one in there and they had me get the bbq off the buffet which every item looked lukewarm and sad. The bbq wasnt bad but I can't recommend it. They don't really have a good business plan. I tried to buy sides for myself and they had me scoop them up off the buffet which everything looked sad again.

Racine's not known for BBQ. Kringle, yes! Kewpee's cheeseburgers, yes! Wilbur's ribs are over-sauced, luke-warm, jello. However, his fried cat fish and home made corn bread are very good. Racine's best ribs, and they really are quite good, can be found at Oh Dennis! Saloon and Charcoal House. The interior, which adorns a pool table at the entrance and small bar, is dimly lit with a multitude of neon beer signs. The place is always smoky from the patrons at the bar, so we carry-out. Call for days and hours of operation.

    Hi,

Last week I was told about a bar with an Italian name, I think starting with a P, has some pretty good food. Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday only with a different pasta featured every day. The local told me when you arrive, you walk into the kitchen to get your food, then eat and pay at the bar. Does this ring a bell with you? If yes, what is the name and most importantly is the food any good? I am pretty sure it was Racine, though it could be Kenosha.

Worse comes to worse, I will go back to the person who offered the tip.

    Regards,
    Cathy2

Regarding Oh Dennis, I went there recently and had the grilled chicken wings. My boyfriend and I agreed these were the best wings we have ever tasted in this area.

Spinnakers isn't bad on Thursday night, wings are 25 cents but the taste is nowhere near that of the Oh Dennis wings.

Regarding that pasta place, I am not sure from the description, there is a lunch only pasta place near Racine street in an old grey looking storefront, hardly a sign. The name escapes me but it is not open for dinner anymore. They have like three items on the menu, one being lasagna.
