I'll be in Carefree, AZ for a few days and am looking for a good sushi restaurant in the area, within like a 30 minute drive. Any recommendations? Thanks

Not much in the area. Sushi Brokers on Scottsdale Rd just north of Bell near the Princess is just alright. Zen 32 near the Biltmore is better but probably a little far from Carefree. If you are in the mood for something a little different with an asian flair try the brand new Trader Vic's at the Valley Ho Hotel in Old Town Scottsdale. They spent a lot of money on both the hotel and restaurant and it is very good. Trader Vic's makes excellent drinks and is not just a Pu Pu destination in its current incarnation.

I think it's pushing your 30 minute limit, but I've had a couple of great meals at Sea Saw in Scottsdale. It's creative Nobu-esque neo-Japanese (the chef's name is also Nobu, coincidentally), but it's one of the very few such places I've been to that does it intelligently. If their menu piques your interest, I can vouch for their quality.

I'd also vote for Sea Saw, but what I really go to AZ for is the Tex Mex/Southwestern food - Richardsons, Cowboy Ciao, Roaring Fork, etc. When I'm in the mood for sushi I tend to not go looking for it in a desert.

When I lived in Scottsdale, I loved to go Hiro Sushi, which is a no frills, more traditional Japanese restaurant with very good sushi. I also enjoyed Sushi on Shea, which is a bit more trendy. Both will be about 30 minutes from Carefree.
