LTHForum,
A few sunny Saturdays ago I was on an errand with my father in the wilds of Boca Raton/Coral Springs when Marco's slightly recessed strip mall sign jumped out from the sea of bland Boca and chain offerings. Spacious modestly appointed and clean as a whistle interior with a friendly helpful almost bilingual staff offering daily specials, soups, empanadas, arepas and sandwiches.
Deliciously garlicky Colombian chorizo herb fragrant with crackling grilled casing, crisp surprisingly meaty chicharron and an order of arepas woke our palates. After a bit of back and forth with the patient waitress we settled on Pollo a La Plancha for my father and Sancocho de cola o gallina, a weekend special, for myself.
Frankly, I suggested to my father he get something, anything, other than Pollo a La Plancha (grilled chicken breast), but chorizo and chicharron had exhausted both his discretionary calorie count and adventurousness. Surprisingly the pounded flat grilled chicken was delicious, moist with a light garlic citrus tang, accompanying rice a tasty surprise as well.
Sancocho de cola o gallina consisted of rich broth with three types of starchy tubers and massively portioned tender as a kiss plate of oxtails with a lightly spiced sofrito like sauce, though the vegetables were cut in a delicate brunoise. Accompanying rice, same as with the chicken, a perfect foil for the saucy oxtail.
Inexpensive flavorful Colombian food prepared and served by friendly people in comfortable surroundings, I'm looking forward to a return visit.
Enjoy,
Gary
