More specfically the town of Montague which is located north of Muskegon and south of Ludington on the Lake Michisgan shore. In all my years of travel to this part of Michigan I have yet to find a place for a decent meal. Does anyone have any suggestions for this area (breakfast, lunch or dinner)? I don't mind a drive but would prefer to heard north as opposed to driving back south into Muskegon or Grand Haven.

I am also looking for a non-touristy place to stop for fresh Michigan produce (blueberries, peaches, cherries, etc). Typically, there are many places to stop along 31 but I have found the prices to be high and the selection and quality to be just okay, nothing spectacular.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions that you can provide.

Just returned from a week in West Central Michigan. While we didn't make any great new discoveries we did revisit a few restaurants that we have been to in a while.

Gary's (Montague) - If looking for a great breakfast or lunch spot this is your place. The prices are cheap, the food is fresh, tasty and homemade and the coffee is hot. MY three pieces of french toast made with homemade bread rang in at a paltry $3.60.

The Way Side Inn (Montague) - Famous for the "wet" burrito. The food was very good for a smoky bar. My wife and her sister really enjoyed their perch dinners. I tried the burrito and found it to be good. From what I could tell it was a burrito stuffed (in my case) wth chicken and beans, covered in a sauce reminiscent of enchilada sauce. The plate was finished with chips and cheese.

Apparently, Michigan was saddled with some bad weather earlier in the year so the fruit prices are very high. Peaches were going for over $20.00 for half a peck (very high according to the MIL). The sweet cherries were $3.50 a pound and the sweet corn was going for 3 for a buck. We did go blueberry picking and were able to pick about 10 pounds for roughly $11.00. The going rate, at the orchard we picked at for pre-picked berries was $12.00 for a 5 pound box.

BTW - it was very nice to be able to drink Bells on tap. Nothing like a pint glass of Oberon while watch the Cubs kick some Brewer @#$.
