Stopping here for the night on our relocating way to Pacific Portland. Any non-fine-dining restaurants/gastropubs (I realize in Utah this is highly doubtful)/ of note here?

    thanks for your help,

I cannot make a specific recommendation as it has been 3-4 years since I have spent a lot of time in Provo. There are many restaurants and a surprising number of ethnic restaurants. Provo is the home of BYU and since most Mormon men serve a two year mission, many abroad, they have exposure to a lot of ethnic food, some of which are duplicated in Provo.

Most of the small ethnic places are around the Marriott hotel downtown and along University Ave.

    Several ideas.

Provo has some great hamburger joints. They generally serve chargrilled burgers, fries with fry sauce, and great milk shakes. The best of these include:

    Burgers Supreme
    1796 N University Pky
    Provo, UT 84604
    (801) 373-5713

    Crown Burgers Restaurant
    377 E 200 S
    Salt Lake City, UT 84111
    (801) 532-1155

    Hires Big H
    2448 N University Parkway
    Salt Lake City, UT
    801.375.5252

Another place worth stooping for great ice cream is the BYU Creamery:

    BYU Creamery
    1209 North 900 East
    Provo, Utah
    Phone: 422-CONE (422-2663)

Also, there are several of the Brazilian steakhouse (Rodizio) restaurants that are similar to those in Chicago - well, not quite. First, the places in Provo generally are in the $20-25pp range. The food is a step below but very acceptable.

If you decide to stop in Salt Lake City, I would highly recommend the Red Iguana which is one of the finest Mexican restaurants in teh country with its great moles. And like most Utah places, quite reasonable.
