Just a very quick blurb. Of course, we didn't have the camera with us (or it wasn't working, I don't recall). In any event, the Lovely Dining Companion had managed to dig up
this review by Jonathan Gold before our recent whirlwind visit to the Southland. Gold was taken with this tiny spot in Gardena and since it's not that far from LDC's childhood home, we popped in for lunch one day. One of the very few places in the entire U.S. that still makes udon by hand: thick, rough-cut, chewy without being too chewy. All in all a real treat. It's a small spot in a corner mall and while saying that it's the best udon I've ever had may not carry much weight, I will add that it's the best LDC has ever had. And--judging by her reaction--the best her Japanese-born-and-raised mom ever had, either (at least in the half-century she's been in LA). Sorry I can't illustrate but if you're intent on pics, you may want to look at
this blog devoted exclusively to "eating ramen in southern california."
