Restaurants in Eastern Bushwick, Brooklyn

Hello LTH,
I need help. I recently moved from Chicago to Brooklyn. More specifically the eastern edge of Bushwick. A couple blocks from the Wilson Ave. L train stop. I was wondering if anyone knows of any good restaurants within walking distance of my new home. Let's say a 20 minute brisk walk. I left my car in Chicago when I moved here.
My new lean roommate who has lived in the neighborhood for five years says there is "nothing" that doesn't require a hop on the subway, but I refuse to believe that's the case. Yes, the neighborhood is rough by most measures, but surely there is good food to be had. It'd be great to find a few spots that didn't require the extra time/effort/$ of the subway.
LTH (and gleam in particular) really transformed the last three years I spent in Chicago so I have high hopes. Bonus points for any mention of specific dishes. Thanks!
