I am heading to New Orleans at the end of the month, and I am going to have 2 days on my own. Does anyone know of any food related tours, preferably outside the city? There is a food walking tour that seems fairly useless since it just hits the touristy spots in the french quarter. I dont want to rent a car, but all I can find are more general tours (cajun country, swamp, plantation) that might include an "authentic" lunch. I realize that I may be SOL, but any help would be appreciated.

Also, are there any restaurants in New Orleans that are particularly hospitable to solo diners?

    Thanks, Will

I know nothing about tours, but I have been to new orleans many times for business and pleasure, and I think that it is a pretty good city for solo diners. I think that you could make a better tour for yourself with a little research. good luck

Poppy Tooker is the head of NOLA's Slow Food Convivium and may be able to steer you towards some heritage food tours.
