I make an annual migration from Montréal to KC every August. One of the few items I look forward to on this trek is breakfast at the
Chuckwagon Cafe in Vandalia. Everything (except the base for the sausage gravy) is homemade: the sausage is superb, the potatoes are crisp, fresh, and spot on, and the biscuit, while a bit light, is correct. And even the sausage gravy has your actual bits of sausage in it.
Service is quick and thorough, the place is full of locals, lots of men in seed caps greeting each other hale-and-heartily, and they keep the coffee coming. Would that there were a place this good in either Kansas City or Montréal...
