In the next few weeks, Mr. kwe and I will be heading to Europe with our two sons ages 13 and 17. Two of our stops will be Berlin and London and I was wondering if any LTHers out there had any dining recs for either of those cities.

In Berlin we are staying right near the Potsdamer Platz which is within walking distance to the Brandenburg Gate and the Tiergarten.

In London we're staying in Mayfair right at the edge of Hyde Park. Mr kwe and I are both pretty familiar with London and have no fear of the tubes.

    Thanks for any help!

I've been to Berlin three times... a MUST DO/SEE is the "Ka De We"... It's essentially a gourmet department store with level after level of fabulous food and cuisine.

In London, Harrod's of course :) But I haven't been there since 1989 so I can't remember many details of other great eateries.

Yeah, absolutely don't miss Ka De We--it's a phenomenal treat for an eater.

Now on to something *really* important: I had the best doner kebaps of my life about 5 yrs ago in a shop on the southwest corner of the intersection of Wallstrasse and Jannowitzbrucke--not far from Alexanderplatz. It's a shop just south of the corner, at sub-sidewalk level--they've got all sorts of clippings up of newspaper articles touting them as the best kebaps in Berlin. Believe it! They make their own pocket bread, and toast it in a kind of a pannini-device. Their 'gyros' is obviously home made and to their own recipe. Even the veggies are toasted a bit before the sandwich is assembled. I ate there for 3 days during a meeting at the hotel which stands above them.

Dang! My mouth is watering just *thinking* about those eats! Yum!!
