I'm going to be in York, Pennsylvania for a few days next week and could use any and all guidance as to where to eat in the area as Roadfood, e-gullet, LTH, et al. offer little assistance. I'll have a rental, so anything in the vicinity will do.

I haven't been to York for about 10 years, but when I was there, it was a horrific place where if I stayed out too late, I feared that vampires would come up from the sewers, no one would notice, and I would never be seen again.

I do remember one restaurant that we ate at, but not the name. At 10:00, the place cleared out and became a strip bar. The same group of strippers moved around the area from venue to venue. They were not hot. If it's anywhere near the same, pack yourself a box of food before you get on a plane. The food was bad, and the people were really bizarre out there.

Oh dear. I lived in Lancaster PA (about a half hour east of York) for a couple of years before moving to Chicago. Your dining options are pretty limited in York and in that area in general.
I can't speak to dining out in York because I've only been to bars there, but downtown Lancaster isn't bad. I remember liking Belvedere Inn, Carr's, Gibraltar, Pressroom (it's been years so I don't know how things have changed). Of course you could always try an Amish smorgasbord.
    Good luck!

Because I know you were dying to know: the posters above weren't snarking.

    To wit:
-cooked cooked-shrimp at the hotel restaurant
-a nearby coffee/sandwich shop unable to make a vegetarian sandwich on its menu because it lacked mushrooms, carrots, and hummus
-"Chow fun" at a local thai place that used stroganoff noodles in place of the titular noodle varietal

Like most everyone else seems to be doing a good job of, avoid.
