I have a freind that has been re-located to Atlanta.

He's homesick for good Chicago style 24 hour DINER type greasy Cheeseburgers. The typical thin type that drip grease all over your shirt ...
    Singles Doubles grilled onions etc...

I'll gladly forward any suggestions you can pass along.

I Fed Ex'ed him Malnatis pizza for Christmas... and he's ordered other items via Fed Ex... Hot dogs and Italian Beef... but Fed Ex-ing a Chicago burger on dry ice just wont do.

    Thanks in advance

There's a place in Buckhead called Bobby G's. Chicago style dogs, pizza, burgers and beef. It's not a 24 hour place. But, it is the only place that I know of there that serves Chicago street food.

I live south of Macon and have no suggestion for a Chicago style diner, but I did just receive a shipment from Paulina Meat Market to satisfy a longing for Chicago street food. They have a "no shipping charge" special for online orders in January. I also order from Racine Bakery, Stiglmeier's, and Portillo's.

The Marietta Diner is more of a New Jersey-type diner -- 24-hour operation, huge menu, shiny exterior -- than a Chicago-type greasy spoon, but it does fit the diner description and it's always open.

I'm pretty fond of the Majestic Diner. It's one of my sister's favorite hangouts and it's definitely 24 hours. I've only been for breakfast so I can't speak to the whole greasy cheeseburger thing but the breakfasts are awesome. Great biscuits. Good grits.

I wouldn't say it's a Chicago style anything but as diners go -- it's one of my faves.

I remember going to a diner in Buckhead that was famous (and, we learned, rightly so) for sweet potato chips with a blue cheese dipping sauce. Is that one of the places that's already been mentioned?

That would be the Buckhead Diner, Katie. It's actually regular potato chips with blue cheese sauce.

The food there is upscale southern influenced. My most recent visit there, about a year ago, was quite disappointing from a food perspective.

I believe that the place is living on its past reputation.

I'm not a big fan of the Landmark Diner, a small chain of greek style Jersey Diners in Atlanta. Nothing ever knocked my socks off there.

The best know is on Roswell Road in Buckhead.

I do endorse thje Marietta Diner as a **real** Jersey style diner in Atlanta.

Mike's Hot Dogs in Sandy Springs, on Roswell just north of 285, serves good Chicago hot dogs.

As for what the OP is looking for, that I don't know. I can think of quite a few diners, but none that are particularly good.

The Majestic may not have the best food, but eating there late at night on a weekend can be great people watching.
