If you ever find yourself in Canton, Mississippi, DO NOT miss eating at Christine's Back Porch. This is a wonderful little place run by Christine, who started off as a caterer. Meals are served daily at specified times. I happened upon it after spending the night at one of the many hotels next to the highway as driving through.
Did you know that Canton is where My Do Skip and O Brother Where Art Thou? were filmed? Me neither, til I drove into the adorable town center and stopped in at the welcome center.
Back to Christine's Back Porch. I had a wonderful lunch there 2 years ago - fried pork chops, the most excellent corn and kidney beans I have ever had (2 separate dishes), and cornbread. Came with a salad (with her own homemade dressing - several varieties - I opted for the Visalia Onion, fantastic!). I chose the bread pudding with sauce which was fantastic and chose the non-sweetened iced tea from the drink choices (sweetened or non). All of it came to something like $7.36. What a deal for delicious home cookin'!! She usually has only 2 choices at lunch (not sure about dinner and am not sure if she even serves breakfast). If you are ever driving to New Orleans through Mississippi, do stop in - you will be glad you did!!
