I recently returned from a trip to NYC as my daughter is now going to school there. I visited a "noodle shop" at 55 Bond Street between Lafayette and Bowery call Hung Ry. It was my third visit and I've come away very impressed each time. I started with a rack and loin of lamb with green beans and a black sauce that might have been sesame. It looked and tasted like something I would get in a restaurant with a Michelin star (and it cost $6, although the portion is not large). A brilliantly dressed salad followed and I ended with a bowl of very good broth with crispy duck gizzard topped by a duck breast with outstanding hand pulled noodles. It was not inexpensive (maybe $17), but it was my third trip to the restaurant and I will be sure to be back on my next visit.
My understanding is that it is difficult to go for dinner as it gets very crowded. I believe they have a more affordable and less competitive weekday lunch special (around $17). The wine list is well chosen and extremely reasonably priced, as are the beers on offer. I'd highly recommend a visit.
