I did a search and surprisingly nothing showed up... Going to SD in the near future and figured I might as well try mexican food in mexico.
I'm not picky, I just have more tastebuds than you... ; )

There is nothing much that I can recommend there. For an interesting experience, try one of the (many) restaurants claiming to be Caesar's, birthplace of the caesar salad. Of course, common wisdom says to avoid eating lettuce and other unpeeled fruits and veggies in Mexico, so it's your call. Keep your head down.

If someone is trying to sell you something you don't want (examples of a few of the things I was offered on my last trip: illegal drugs, weapons, strip club admission), ask them for directions to the cathedral. They will generally proceed to ignore you completely.

I can't be much help on recommendations for food and drink as I was with a friend from San Diego so I didn't really do any planning or note any of our stops. I'll simply say that some really good things do exist in the town. Years later I recall fondly an amazing espresso at a cigar store and a terrific chicken mole taco from a street cart...

A food-blogger here in LA has posted on a number of his finds in Tijuana. I've personally only ever been to Cebicheria Erizo (Ave Sonora No 3808-11) and had Javier Plascencia's (owner of a number of the best restaurants in TJ) food at a dinner in LA and really enjoyed both experiences. I highly recommend that you check out http://www.streetgourmetla.com/ for more TJ recommendations

Ive been there before, wasnt impressed with the touristy revolution st, etc, but I love mexican food and assumed there had to be some great authentic mexican food in one of the largest cities in mexico. I know nearby SD has tons of great mexican food but I want something besides a fish taco. I've found some decent links and thanks to those that have replied, I'll go and post some pics of what I find.

If you want something on the higher end side, check out Mision 19 in Tijuana. Very exciting modern Baja food.

And if you need a dining companion in SD, feel free to contact me.

Glad you found some links and helpful info, FoodSnob77 - indeed there is more menudo than murder in TJ, and I'm looking forward to seeing your reports. There are some California bloggers who cover TJ pretty well which I'm sure you've come across, and also an LTHer by the name of kare_raisu who is well-versed down there too.

Interesting comments from Rick Bayless calling Tijuana "one of the great food cities of North America."

The Grub Street interview includes a link to this New York Times piece on Javier Plascencia and Mission 19.
