The Buford market in suburban Atlanta is impressive. It's not really a farmers market, it's ~100,000SF of veggies, fruit, meat, seafood, and ethnic specialties. It's so chaotic there is an "eye in the sky" security tower in the parking lot. Today's visit unearthed bull penis, cow uterus, hog rectum and other assorted victuals. The seafood counter exhibited a dozen varieties of fresh shrimp and any number of fresh live fish ready for the counterman.
Veggies included numerous varieties of bok choy, fresh mushrooms, potatoes, oriental greens, Korean radishes, peppers, bean sprouts, and several cabbage varieties. Fruit selections included the infamous durian, fresh and frozen.
In the European section, which focuses on Ukranian, we found half a dozen rye bread varieties, dumplings, pickles, spices, yoghurts, and an enormous selection of encased meats (sausage).
We filled our cart with pork belly, short ribs, rye bread, cold cuts, baby bok choy, mini pattypan squash, broccolini, creminis, and several other items.
If you're coming to Atlanta make space for a visit here and its nearby competitor, the behemoth Decatur Farmers Market with 140,000SF of selling space.

Both Buford Highway and the Decatur Markets are must for any food lover making his way through Atlanta. When you're at Buford, You're just a few blocks from the Atlanta outpost of Marisquiera El Veneno- the wonderful authentic Mexican Seafood place that serves its seafood in the style of the state of Nayarit.

On the higher end, if money is not an object, Star Provisions over in West Midtown has some wonderful in house cured pork products to sample.

Atlanta is really a great food town.

I bet you would cause quite a stir down in Dublin serving bull penis at your dinner party.

Will, the swath of the South running from Atlanta thru Athens and on to Charleston has some remarkable chefs and food venues. Kevin Rathbun and Kevin Gillespie hold forth in Atlanta, Hugh Acheson mans the kitchen in Athens, and Sean Brock, Mike Lata and a host of other accomplished chefs dot the Charleston landscape. Of course, there's not much in between those cities.

As for my Dublin dinner party, I think we will stick with more traditional fare!
