If I could conjure up the perfect day, the perfect highway, the perfect roadside place to have the perfect lobster roll, it would be Saturday at the
Clam Bar, along Highway 27 between Amagansett and Montauk, NY.

Warm sunshine and a cool mist off the ocean provided the accompaniment for my new favorite lobster roll:

8 to 10 ounces of sweet, tender mixed lobster meat, a bit of celery, a scant dab of mayo and that's it. The fries and coleslaw weren't particularly special, but certainly better than average. At $19.50, it's a pricy sandwich, but you definitely get what you pay for. We also tried the clam chowder and the corn and crab soup. Both were fine, but the lobster rolls stole the show.
