Twice yearly the Knob Creek gun range in Westpoint, Ky. holds a military gun show and machine gun shoot. The shoot draws folks from all points and as far as I know it's the only place where Joe Citizen can plunk down some money and get to fire a live machine gun or flame thrower with out having to sign up for military service.

What I'm thinking here is to drive down, hit some BBQ places along the way and spend Sat at Knob Creek. According to the Knob Creek web site the Sat. evening "night shoot" looks spectacular.

I think there is a place in Vegas to shoot machine guns as well.

This sounds like fun. I can't go this October, but I was planning to drive to FL next April anyway....

Ain't America great? To get the most bang for your travel buck, register for the Silver State Classic where you can run your car at speeds wildly in excess of the posted limits on public roads. Then you are 2/3rds on your way to the Holy Trinity of Vegas fun; you are on your own for the 'wild women' portion. :)

I have driven NV318 between Las Vegas and Ely on a half dozen occasions. All I am going to say is that on this rural highway, you generally do between 80-85 mph and see less than 10 cars over the 1-2 hours that you tke to complete the drive.

    Beats the Dan Ryan!!
