So, just off the plane (Pittsburgh airport looks to be among the better for a pre-flight meal, by the way -- at least there's better than the reheated generic crap at Dulles, but that's another show), checked into the motel, and looking for a quick meal before setting up for the conference.
The bell captain (I couldn't find the concierge) said for a quick meal that their sports bar was a good bet (too smoky), or the McD's or Wendy's a block away.
I wasn't going to break my vow against generiburgers, but sandwiched between them, at 500 Liberty, is Cuza Mil, a mexican restaurant. There's a Jimmy Johns on that block too, but I've been warned off that.
I was initially hopeful, as the table salsa was fresh and loaded with garlic and cilantro, with hot chips, but the sopes ($7.95) were very disaapointing. One moderate-sized sope in each of three fillings: beef which tasted just like the Lawry's spice packet, chicken which tasted like pot pie, and reasonable chorizo. The sopes themselves were undercooked, with a flavor reminiscent of old hot-dog-stand tamales in paper wrappers. I wasn't hoping for much, but I was hoping for better than that.
The same address has two other restaurants on the 2nd and 3rd floors, one of them Mediterranean, sounding middle eastern. Perhaps?
What is patriotism, but the love of good things we ate in our childhood?
