Those LTH'ers who find themselves in New York over a weekend with nothing to do (???) might be interested in taking an eating and walking tour of one of New York ethnic neighborhoods. On various Saturdays and Sundays, Myra Alperson runs what she calls "Nosh Walks." I have taken five of them in my year in New York to Flushing (Chinese), Richmond Hill (Guyanaese), Dyker Heights (Italian), Rego Park (Bukharan), and Bay Ridge (Arab). The cost of the three-hour tours are $33, and includes food. They are easily reachable by subway. Other tours are to Harlem, Chinatown, Sunset Park, Brighton Beach, etc. They are good fun, and quite modest in price. Myra also has a book, Nosh New York, which is available on amazon.com.

    HI,

IN addition to Evelyn Thompson, whom was linked to just above and who happens to belong to Culinary Historians. Marilyn Pocius does market tours and her book Cook's Guide to Chicago was recently updated.

Slow Foods has begun a series of ethnic tours. Last weekend, they had Erik M touring people through Argyle. Hammond has conducted tours of Maxwell Street. Anytime you're with ReneG, even if your treading on old grounds, he comes up with new information. Gwiv is quite knowledgeable and capable of doing BBQ tours.

GAF - while you identified only one such Maven in Chicago, I think we have a bushel full here! :)

    Best regards,
    Cathy2
