We went to Pizzeria Regina in the North End of Boston the other night. Regina's has always been one of my favorite pizza places, as it is totally old-school, complete with a 150-year-old oven that they clean once a year (on Easter Sunday). The pizza itself is outstanding, with an amazing cracker-like crust that is even better when they cook the pizza well-done (as I always ask when I go there).
And while the pepperoni pizza I got the other night was indeed satisfying, I'm not entirely sure that it is the best pizza I have had in the Northeast. Pepe's in New Haven and Grimaldi's in Brooklyn may indeed be a bit better, though it's surely a matter of opinion. And Santarpio's in East Boston gives Regina's a run for its money, too.
I still haven't tried Sally's in New Haven, Di Fara in Brooklyn, or Patsy's in Manhattan, but for now, I guess I'm going to say that Pepe's is #1 for me, but not by much.
