My kids always said they knew they were on vacation when they saw a Waffle House.

I was at the Collinsville location a couple of weeks ago. It was a quarter mile away from my hotel, so yeah, I went.

I also got an order of eggs and hashbrowns.

They do not have butter as an option or real maple syrup. I think that is a mistake on both counts. Cracker Barrel does have maple syrup, I can't remember if they also have butter.

Yes on both counts. Real butter and real maple syrup are served at Cracker Barrel. Fyi, Bob Evans serves only fake maple syrup and fake butter (at least that was the case at my last - and final - visit there). It's been so long since I've been to a Waffle House, I had no idea this was also the case there. That's certainly a bummer. Rage against fake food! :x

If I planned it, next time I would just pack my own, I get the feeling no one would care.

That is what I do. Bring my own maple syrup and my own Cajun Power Sauce on those occasions where I am ordering the has browns.

The Waffle House in Collinsville, IL, just off 55 outside St. Louis should be avoided at all costs. Limp waffle, soggy hash browns that looked like they were a pre-formed frozen patty. I should have known something was wrong when I pulled in and the parking lot was empty, risk starvation or even Denny's before going here.
