    LTH,

In preparation for the end of my life as I know it I am looking for a restaurant for 40-50 people for dinner somewhere between New Haven and Branford CT. We are planning to eat around 5-6PM on a Friday evening.

We're looking to keep the tab below $50/head, and of course I would like something decent to eat. So far the only place that has been mentioned is The Chowder Pot II in Branford.

Additionally, if anyone has a recommendation for a location for our reception the following day they would also be appreciated. So far the Owenego Inn and Amarantes are on the short list. We are trying to limit our search to locations that have a maximum of 150 guests. (Otherwise our mothers would get a little crazy in the invitation dept.)

Le Petit Cafe in Branford used to be tangentially affiliated with Jacques Pepin (maybe a niece or nephew ran the place and Pepin may have consulted). Anyway, I think it was right on the green and did a very nice modestly priced prix fixe. I think I heard from a friend that ownership had changed a while ago but in any case I haven't been there for a decade. I can't comment meaningfully on the food but it was a nice room and about the right size that you could rent the whole place if they were willing.

Just looked it up. Website below. It's a lot pricier than I remembered but may still be in your range.
