I'm looking for a restaurant similar to Alinea or Moto in Chicago, but in NYC. Does anyone have any recommendations?

If you're looking for the best: Per Se, Daniel or Jean-Georges

If you're looking for similar to Moto and Alinea it would be Wylie Dufresne's WD-50.

Here are some thoughts on WD-50: http://www.lthforum.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=5373

I have not been to Per Se (I've only seen their menus), but I'd say that if quality is most important, I'm guessing Per Se would be the better choice. If innovation is most important, then try WD-50. on another note, I know that the former pastry chef at Alinea went to WD-50 . . . not sure if he's up and running though.

Try Daniel. Poster GAF has a series of posts on New York restaurants, and Daniel is one of them http://lthforum.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=7682&highlight=daniel. He goes into great detail about the meal he had there.

I dined at Daniel this weekend and any adjective I could use: outrageous, mind-blowing, spectacular would not do justice to the experience of this place. And, that is what a night at Daniel is: an experience. From the moment you arrive the stage is set for a perfect evening of food, service, and art. I would highly reccomend Daniel for a special evening in New York. The price is well worth it: you will leave feeling enlightened and satsified.

Be advised that they book reservations a month in advance.
