I am going next week and Momofuku Ssam bar was recommended to me by a friend. Our tastes usually differ so I was wondering if anyone here at LTH has been there. Worth going to? If it is, what did you get?

I've only been to the noodle bar (which was excellent), but I see that the justly-famous pork buns are also on the menu at the Ssam bar. Do not miss them.

Is the pork bun available during lunch? I don't see it on the online menu but not everything on the internet is up to date. anyone know?

The pork bun is available at the "regular" Momofuku at 163 First Avenue between 10th and 11th Streets at lunch. I remember reading a while back that it was only available at Ssam at dinner (which may have changed, although the online menu indicates that it is still the case). Ssam is at 2nd Avenue and 13th street, which is a very short trip from the original Momofuku. If you need to go to Ssam, start at the original with a "warm up" order of the pork buns. Do not be tempted to share an order with anyone else as this can lead to very ugly territorial behavior. I like to follow up my pork buns with a trip down the street to Rai Rai Ken at 214 10th street between first and second for a bowl of ramen. I find the ramen there to be superior to the ramen served at Momofuku (and very inexpensive).

Whatever you do, don't miss the pork buns (or the soup dumplings at Joe's Shanghai). Best of luck.

    thanks....

Joe's shanghai is already on the list for soup dumplings. Hopefully I'll remember to take lots of pictures before eating everything.

The lunch menu lists the pork buns under "Other Options".

    Keevieweevie,

In addition to GAF's terrific review of Momofuku, if you put momofuku in the LTHForum search you come up with 6 additional references.

    Regards,

Yes, but one of those is the obituary of Momofuku Ando and the others (including the review) are all in reference to the noodle bar. :)

I didn't even know the Momofuku empire had expanded until this thread.

Thanks Gary for your help. I did read the review you linked before posting but noticed that was for the noodle bar. One friend of mine must've went on an off night because she didn't enjoy her meal at all at the noodle bar but she highly recommended eating at Momofuku Ssam however. I'll have to ask her why one over the other when I'm in NYC next week.
