I'm heading up to the great white north in a few weeks for a bachelor party, I was wondering if anyone had any rec's for group dining/drinking in the city. We've reserved a table at Queue de Cheval for a big steak dinner on saturday and I'm planning on hitting up Schwartz's at some point for some smoked meat, so we should be good for our red meat fix. Does anyone know of a particularly good brewpub we should hit up? I'd be particularly interested in finding a place with good Belgian beer list and moules that can accommodate a group of 15. Also looking for a cheaper group dinner spot friday night, I'm thinking chinatown but I haven't heard anything about Montreal chinese food scene. Any food/drink rec's for a guys' weekend in the city would be greatly appreciated.[/url]

Check out L'Actuel for the beer/moules demand--great place for both. They have an upstairs that should be able to accommodate your group.

When I was last in Montreal, I noticed this place, loved the menu and beer list, but didn't have a chance to check it out. They had an impressive beer list and a menu with mussles in a wide variety of cooking broths.

You might want to add this to your list of possibilities:

    Bières & Compagnie
    4350 rue St-Denis
    514/844-0394

    Best,
    Michael

B&C has very good, but not great food and a wide selection of beers. 15 page beer menu, 100 beers, 30 locally brewed. All you can eat mussels Mondays and Tuesdays.

Places that brew their own beer:

    Brutopia
    1219 rue Crescent

    Cheval Blanc
    809 RUE ONTARIO EST

    Dieu du Ciel
    29 Ave. Laurier Ouest

    L'amer à Boire
    2049 rue St-Denis

You won't find Chinese anywhere near as good as you get in Chicago in Montreal's China block-and-a-half. That said, Kam Fung and Ruby Rouge are popular places for dim sum.

The best steak (filet mignon) of my life I had at La Queue de Cheval a few years ago. Even the shrimp were amazingly fresh and succulent. Enjoy!!
