    Hi Folks

I'll be doing a lot of travelling to Washington DC for work this year. I'd be interested to hearing some suggestions, or links to reviews on here, of restaurants for lunches and dinners to check out. I'll be staying at a Marriot near M and 22nd and working near the Metro center. I know my way around the city by Subway/Metro pretty well. BBQ, Indian, ecelectic, anything of note would be helpful.

    Thanks!!
    Joel

Thanks MikeG. That roadtrip looked like it was quite the culinary adventure. Unfortunatly, I'll be on UAL and doing the subway thing. But I'm going to have to make a mental note to go to West Virginia for those biscuits and gravy!! :D

It's been a while since I spent much time in DC, but I would want to check out Myanmar in Falls Church, which Mike Sula recently blogged about on the Reader food blog.

More than six years ago, I had one spot I really loved, Afghan Kabob, in Georgetown. Some friends took me on one trip and it was the only place I insisted upon returning to the next time I was in town. It wasn't quite as inspirational on the return trip, but I don't remember many details and it may just have been circumstantial.

I also recall being pretty impressed with Queen Bee, a Vietnamese restaurant in Arlington, but I went there before I'd spent much time on Argyle Street. If I recall correctly, it's slightly more polished than, say, Tank Noodle, but not a real fancy place.

In general, Adams-Morgan seemed like a rich spot for food. That's where the extremely dense cluster of Ethiopian restaurants is, but also a lot of other diverse and relatively affordable places. I went to Meskerem and felt that it was fine, but recall that the next time I went to Ethiopian Diamond here in Chicago, I felt that my local favorite was still better, at least for the dishes I order. Friends also took me for empanadas somewhere around there that were good, but alas, I have no idea where that was.

I wrote a blog on a trip I took to Washington last April. (The link is below.) I really liked the Taj Mahal near Dupont Circle; they have an excellent luncheon buffet. And the breakfast in the Lafayette Room of the Hay Adams hotel near the White House was something special. Well worth the big bucks!

How did I miss this? Well, hello and weclome to my fair city (not for much longer though...I'll be a resident of your fair city soon enough).

Here are some places I feel that I take everyone:

    1. Dino in Cleveland Park (http://www.dino-dc.com). This is a neighborhood treasure with excellent Italian and one of the best wine lists in DC. No lunches.

    2. Poste in the Hotel Monaco near Metro Center. Order carefully, but you want the Tartare and frites.

    3. Vidalia at 20th and M. This place is pricey, so be prepared, but you should be wowed by RJ's cooking.

    4. If you can take the metro all the way to Alexandria (King Street metro) I'd go to Restaurant Eve for dinner one night. Pricey, but well worth it.
