Mustard's Last Stand - Danville IL

My family unit went to the Danville IL location of Mustard's Last Stand last night, as we were looking for a quick pizza close to where we'd been fishing. The operator was very friendly and gave us lots of info on all they offered (Vienna Beef chicago dogs, "maxwell street" polish, italian beef, etc.) in addition to the thin crust pizza. We went with the pizza (half cheese, half pepperoni) and while it was cooking, the operator (I wish I could remember his name) brought us some small samples of his garlic bread, meatballs, and italian beef. All were very tasty, as was the pizza. total bill for 3 feeders was just under $15. we will definitely be going back.

it is located along Route 150, just west of Danville and a little east of the Route 150/I-74 intersection.

I highly doubt this, but is this place in any way related to my old high school hang-out, Mustard's Last Stand on Central Street in Evanston, next to Dyche Stadium (Ryan Field for those non-purests out there).

my guess is that it is somewhat related. it appeared chain-ish, in that supplies came from a central location, but the Danville spot has local control and can do their own thing to some extent. The operator is doing an Italian night special,once a month, that you have to sign up in advance for (as he only has some much room in the building and wants to make sure the food quantity and number of people attending match up).

when I was googling to get the address, I got a lot of hits for places with the same name in other towns, too

The person you are referring to is Dick Christenson, the owner of Mustard's Last Stand in Danville. It is not a chain.

He also operates a hotdog stand near the U of Illinois on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights from 10 to 3 AM.

The food is great and he is a perfectionist. A lot of the food is made from scratch, including the pizza sauce. The Italian Nights are a delight. It's a 7 course meal and you BYOB. There is live entertainment on Italian Night.

It's well worth the stop. The prices are very reasonable and the food is great.

He sets up a hotdog stand across from Legends on Green St half block from 6th St from 11 to 3 AM on Tues thru Saturday nights.

He doesn't have a permanent building. He's a great guy.

He's considering meatballs, so ask if you want something other than what he has and he'll try to accomodate.

I was just in Boulder, CO last week and we ate a "Mustard's Last Stand". The workers there didn't seem to know about the place in Evanston. The hot dogs were Vienna Beef, they also had Italian beef, Polish and Italian sausage. We had the hot dogs, just like home. They also had Vienna giardeniara(sp?) next to the ketchup and mustard and a shaker of celery salt. The place even sold cans of Old Style.

The owner must've been a south sider as the place was decked out in Sox stuff, in addition to the usual Bears paraphernalia.

The location was very nice, right next to Boulder Creek, with a park for the young'uns. It was on Broadway, between the University of Colorado and downtown. They also had a location in Denver near the University of Denver.
