I'll be in Tucson for business later this month/early May.

The only thread I've found on Tucson is this one from 2004 which mostly discusses Pizzeria Bianco, in Phoenix.

For these types of trips, I usually like a business-casual restaurant with a nice bar, where it won't seem out of place if I'm flipping through a file, semi-working, while I eat at the bar. But, of course, it should also have good food. (I'm not looking for a taco stand on this trip.)

I don't want to eat at my hotel. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I've never had anything but disappointing meals in Tucson (Not that I doubt the possibility of some decent food out there, I've just not found it yet). One place that constantly gets mentioned as being very good Mexican food is El Charro. I've never been that impressed with the food, but the ambiance might be what you are looking for. YMMV. Good luck and keep us posted.

Tuscon has good Mexican food. My buddies went to UofA and I remember a place called el charro that we always went too. It was good from what I remember but cant say its better than anything you'll find in Chicago, I just dont remember it as being amazing.

I love Cafe Poca Cosa which is downtown on Pennington. It specializes in higher end Mexican Fusion food (but the prices are very reasonable). The menu changes twice daily. I had a great lunch there two days ago.

I was in Tucson in February and went to both Poca Cosa and El Charro. As stevez mentioned the food at El Charro is not anything to write home about, and has really gone down hill since I went to school there(a while ago).
Poca Cosa on the other hand has a nice bar and an overcrowded seating area. The food is worth a visit.
If you're interested in a Sonoran mexican food Mi Nidito is the best.
I've got admit I enjoyed the Sonoran Hot Dogs atEl Guero Canelo
The original location is nostalgic and the new one convenient and modern.

Just returned from Tuscon last night. Although I can't really recommend anything for a business dinner Gus Balon's offers a great breakfast in a typical diner setting. Try the green chili and cheese omelet.
As D'Bigg suggested don't miss El Guerro Canela

We went there in October. Here are some notes I had on places I really wanted to try. We weren't there long so I didn't get a chance to try any of these places out. I think the notes are all copied from TripAdvisor--none of the notes in italics are my notes.

    -Teresa's Mosiac Cafe on
2455 North Silverbell Road, Tucson, AZ 85745
(Northwest corner of West Grant/West Ironwood Hills Road and North Silverbell Road). The food is good and the atmosphere is a delight.

    - La Parilla Suiza: Mexico City-style, which is very different from the other food you'll get in Tucson.

    - Pastiche: We went on a recommendation from our B&B hosts and it was a great find - interesting menu, tasty food, good service, a relaxed atmosphere and reasonable (but by no means cheap) prices. The only reason I gave four instead of five stars is that, as a first-time visitor to Arizona, I thought this was the kind of good restaurant you can find in any fairly large U.S. city - there was nothing particularly Southwestern about the food or the decor
    .

The Tucson Weekly has a good restaurant section:

Here is another web site for Tucson restaurants:

If you are looking for a sandwich or salad, there are a few of these in town and they are very good.

Terra Cotta was in the general area we stayed. We drove up to it but it looked fancier on the outside than we were in the mood for. A relative our age who used to live in Tucson said this is his favorite place in the city.

we enjoyed Pastiche while in Tucson nice Bistro type menu, with nice wine list and wine store attached. They serve late although i think they switch to a late night menu after 10 ish.
Sorry I dont have an address but I am sure your hotel can help you find it.
